Golden Globe nominated producer Edward Bass (BOBBY) has locked in his debut directorial effort with BELLE. In his feature, Bass intends to chronicle the exploits of Belle Gunness, America's most prolific female serial killer. Working mostly from her farm base in La Porte County, Indiana, around the turn of the 20th century, Gunness left a trail of buried bodies as she allegedly killed her husbands and dozens to whom she wrote love letters to, and who arrived there with fat wallets. Additonally, several of Gunness's stepchildren disappeared under very mysterious circumstances.
"It's not a who-done-it, as much as a why-done-it", says Bass. "It's a classic theme; a woman looking for love and never quite being satisfied ... and, when she does find it, it eludes her."

Bass, who for the past several years has been located around lower Broadway in a never-ending loft, has several other projects in motion too. A script called PONZI, chronicalling one of the greatest swindlers of all time in Charles Ponzi, is also in the works.
"The time seemed perfect for the telling of this story."
Bass wrote the working script; he’s also writing THE HUNT with Jeremy Workman that he's producing in association with Michael Mailer. Just back from Los Angeles, where he had a memorable meeting at the famed Polo Lounge with Jesse Jackson, Jr. and Sr., Bass leaves for Cannes later in the week.
